Primary Scenario

The Primary Scenario is the data set SmartPM uses for all calculations on a project*. Keeping it current ensures your metrics, dashboards, and reports reflect the right baseline and milestone.

*Note: In several tabs throughout the project, you can switch between models and milestones to view that tab's data under a different selection. This doesn't change the project's default Primary Scenario; it only lets you explore that tab with a specific model and milestone in view. Once you return to the homepage, the view resets back to the default Primary Scenario.

What Makes Up the Primary Scenario

The Primary Scenario is comprised of two parts:

  • Model: The baseline schedule selected for the project. If no baseline has been chosen, all schedules are used.
  • Milestone: The milestone being tracked to, if one is set. If not, the full schedule is used.

To update the Primary Scenario:

  1. Navigate to the Project List and click on the ellipses next to the project name.
  2. Click Manage Schedules.
  3. Identify the schedule you would like to mark as your new baseline.
  4. Scroll to the right and click the 'Rebaseline to This Schedule' icon.
  5. Name your rebaselined schedule.
  6. Checkmark Update Primary Scenario to apply this rebaseline as the project's primary scenario.
  7. Once options are selected, click Confirm.

Update the Primary Scenario whenever you want SmartPM's calculations to reflect a new baseline or milestone as the project's current reference point.

To mark a Milestone as primary:

  1. Navigate to the Project List and select a project
  2. Hover over Analysis and click Miletones
  3. Identify the milestone you would like to mark as primary from the list
  4. Click the radio next to the selected milestone and click Mark as Primary
  5. Click Yes to update
